Top Five Tearjerker Movies

Top Five Tearjerker Movies

Over the weekend I spent a bit of time going through my stacks of DVDs and trying to get some sense of organization and there were a few that brought back a flood of memories and I decided to veg out and watch them again.  These movies, in no particular order, always move me to tears.

Limiting myself to only FIVE films is very, very difficult.  As soon as I hit publish, I will facepalm and want to add another and another.  It's a never ending cycle.

1.  Big Fish.

I have seen Big Fish more times than I can count and every single time- I bawl my eyes out.  *sniffs* stupid onions.    When Edward Bloom is telling his life story from his death bed and his son's impatience with his father's imagination already tears at your heart but it's the end that does me in.

"They say when you meet the love of your life, time stops, and that’s true."

2.  An Affair to Remember.

I would watch this movie with my mom and it was one that I have carried with me through adulthood and I weep.  I weep as my mother did.  I am not sure if it's really the movie that makes me weep or because I weep with my mom (even to this day) but regardless, I get teary each and every time. However, Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant's love affair still makes one swoon.

3.  Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.

Okay, so Lord of the Rings isn't one you would see on a "tearjerker" list.  However, one of the most emotional scenes is Aragorn's speech and he tells Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin that they bow to no one.  Four unassuming Hobbits who had endured a nightmare and the entire kingdom bows to them.  Tears fall freely.   If you don't cry or at least become emotional, you are not human.  That's my final say on that.

4.   The Notebook.  No tearjerker list is complete without The Notebook.  Let's be honest- this movie is one hell of a heartbreaker and turns even the iciest heart into a mushy mess.  Even makes a romance cynic like me want Noah.

5.  The Green Mile.    I just... I have no words.
