You may recall that I have a bit of a love affair with Walmart Family Mobile. I have multiple posts about the service and my phone and was even a Walmart Family Mobile Brand Ambassador until this past May. To say I am a fan... well, it is an understatement.
My service has been nothing but reliable and as a matter of fact, my service has been the same level as it was with my previous high dollar contract plan but at 1/3 of the price. Win.
Recently, I met with an in-store Walmart Family Mobile expert to learn more about what Walmart Family Mobile has to offer to current and potential customers.
The rep I met at my local Walmart was INCREDIBLY knowledgeable and passionate about the plans available. You know when you meet a representative of a company and you can tell the difference between being a salesman and somebody who is passionate about their product? It was very obvious he is passionate about the Walmart Family Mobile AND helping out everybody who walks through the door.
He told me that it was most important to him to make sure that the customer's needs are met and that they are matched up with a phone and service that will make the customer happy. It was more about matching up the phone with the person than it was about selling the most expensive phone.
I asked him what was his process to make the match.
He wants to know WHAT they plan to use the phone for. Is it just to be able to talk to family and text occasionally? Do they take a lot of photos? Heavy web browsing? Video streaming? These are all things that are important. A person, like me, who takes a lot of photos, is always using social media, online and playing music needs a more complex phone like the Samsung Galaxy S4. A basic phone would drive me nuts. However, a person who just needs the ability to call or text family would be overwhelmed by the Galaxy.
I asked him what the most common questions he gets from customers were:
Q: "Does Walmart Family Mobile have a Family plan?"
A: Yes! 2nd line gets a $5 discount.
Q: "Why does internet speeds throttle down?"
A: The base plan allows 1 gig of LTE. Most people have access to wifi and will rarely come across it but can upgrade to 5 gigs for an additional $20 per month and it's still a low cost plan.
Q - "What is it that most people don't know about Walmart Family Mobile plans?"
A- A customer can port a previous number so that way they don't have to worry about updating with contacts. They also don't realize that the plan is on the T-Mobile towers and that means coverage is huge! People are always worried about if they will have coverage and that can easily be verified on the website or in store we can help them check their area.
Q- "What if I want to text or call internationally?"
A- That is completely possible. For many of the customers that come in the store, being able to stay in touch with family out of the United States is critical.
Q- "What about tablets?"
A- Yes! Tablets are available to buy and can be purchase a plan for non- wifi coverage!
Q- "Is this prepaid?"
A- No. With prepaid, you have to pay for the service before using it. Walmart Family Mobile is postpaid which means that the service is paid for AFTER without ANY contracts.
Q- "After a customer buys a phone, do they just take the box and go... or...?"
A- No! The rep wants to make sure that they are up and running before they leave. The phone needs to be activated, tested and give pointers and tips to get the most out of their phones. The rep will even go above and beyond by helping download apps that are helpful, useful or just fun.
I learned so many things from this visit-
1. You can port your mobile number in from another carrier.
2. You can use other carrier's phones (just have to check if the phone is GSM or CDMA. An in store rep can assist you in seeing if the phone can be transferred to Walmart Family Mobile).
3. The plan does offer the ability to call and text internationally.
4, I learned that 4G LTE means: 4th Generation. Long Term Evolution (The things you learn...)
5. I also learned that the first day you get and use your smart phone, to let it die completely BEFORE charging it to extend the life of the battery. (Did you know this???)
6. For an additional $20 per month, can add boost the LTE to 5 gigs from 1 gig. (The plan is $29.88/month* (for the first line) Unlimited Talk, Text & Data service plan which includes up to 1G of 4G LTE data
I seriously wish I had an in-store expert at the time when I was setting up my phone! Especially if somebody could have given me a tip or two about my phone! Haha. Seriously, I could have picked his brain for hours but... customers came in and I took off so he could help them out.
I have shared with you about my experience meeting an Walmart Family Mobile ESR rep in store at Walmart. Find an expert in your area here.
Also, leave me a comment and let me know what you would ask one of these reps.
