Easy Ways to Declutter Your Wardrobe

Easy ways to declutter your wardrobe.  If you are anything like me, you love clothes and that can be a problem.

Easy Ways to Declutter Your Wardrobe

I love clothes.  So much so, that I tend to hoard them.  *clears throat*  That means my small closet is overflowing.  It's out of control.  What makes it even more difficult is that we don't really have seasons here in Phoenix.  I mean, we DO but nothing really extreme except the super hot summers and that means you can wear most everything all year.

I have been trying to move to a much more minimalist life and have been decluttering (hence the slowing down on blogging).  I recently downsized books (oh my heart!!!) and now, am focusing on clothing.

I know I am not the only woman out there who has been looking for easy ways to declutter my wardrobe.    I am making serious gains and am almost right where I want everything to be!

Here are the things I have been doing to declutter my wardrobe.

1.  Pull EVERYTHING out of your closet.

Yes. EVERYTHING

I was shocked at the volume and I hadn't even touched my dresser.  Ha.  Seeing how much you own can be eye opening.

2.  Separate clothing by type of clothing.

Put jeans in one pile, skirts in another, slacks in another, shirts, sweaters, etc.

3.  Go through each pile and get rid of stuff!

I had 14 pairs of black slacks.  Sizes 6, 8, 10, and 12.  I know I am not going to be back into a size 6 or 8 soon.  It's time to get rid of them.  They went into the donation pile.  I did the same for EACH pile of clothing.

Get rid of clothes that are worn out, too big, too small, etc.

4.  Pull out seasonal (but timeless) pieces for storage.

As I said above, we can wear most clothing all year here in Phoenix. However, with fall being here- it's time to put away shorts, spring colored clothing, etc.  They went into another pile!

5.  Grab Hefty Ultra Strong Bags and get to work!

Easy Ways to Declutter Your Wardrobe

I use Hefty Ultra Strong Bags because of John Cena.

I kid but he's gorgeous and funny and he needs a place on my blog.  Haha.

Seriously- I use Hefty Ultra Strong bags in this part because of the break resistant grip draw string, tear resistant technology,  and with Arm & Hammer's odor neutralizer- it makes this part of my job easier.

I use Hefty Ultra Strong bags for both storage and donation.

For the clothes I am keeping and am storing, they are put in a Hefty Ultra Strong Bag first and then into a plastic storage tub.  It's nice because they won't smell musty when I pull them out thanks to the Arm & Hammer odor neutralizer and the amazing scent.

For the clothes I am donating, these bags are twofold.  First- the strength.  Clothes are HEAVY and it's easier to donate bags of clothing than it is boxes of clothing since I have a small car.  Second- again, the scent.   I can pull up to my local thrift store, pop my trunk and the staff can easily grab the bags of clothing and the bags won't break.  Win win!

Hefty Ultra Strong 13 gallon bags are perfect for your kitchen, crafts, and home chores.  They come in the following scents:

Clean Burst
Citrus Twist
Lavender & Sweet Vanilla
Crisp Orchard Apple
White Pine Breeze
Tropical Paradise
Pomegranate Mist
Scent Free
