Did you know that May was Women's Health month?  I know many of us tend to neglect our own health due to putting the needs of others ahead of our own.  Ever since Emma was injured- my health has suffered greatly.  Stress, anxiety, worry, and just not taking care of myself like I should.  It's a shame.  I have had a few health scares that have really reminded me of my mortality but not just mortality but the fact I am exhausted.  Our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health are so interconnected.  Neglect one and the other suffers.

The deaths of both of my parents have really opened up my eyes.  I haven't posted very much about my mother but when she died in 2006 from lung cancer, I was heartbroken.  My mother had a very hard life raising nine children.  She also smoked for a very, very long time.  She also had a very poor diet and didn't take care of her health like she needed to- she expended all of her energy on her nine children and working full time (she entered the work force when I was 10 or 11).  As she got older, she did try to get her needs taken care of and she really tried to take care of herself.  My father had a major heart attack in 2000 and they both made the decision to quit smoking and take care of their health.  She was knocked down with Graves Disease and then she was diagnosed with cancer in 2004.    Please don't think that I am blaming her for anything but it just opened my eyes that I am doing the same thing to myself.  I am putting my health needs last because I don't have time.  Trying to get time to go to the doctor for well visits is hard enough when I have exhausted all my work time off on all of my daughters' specialists.

The question I asked myself- who will take care of Emma when I am knocked down sick? I am the only one here so that means I have to take care of my health needs and Walgreens has a fantastic selection of Women's health products to get you started on adding items to your daily routine.  I visited the Walgreens close to my apartment the other day to pick up a good multi-vitamin and maybe something else to add to my routine.

Their vitamin aisle has plethora of options for you to add any kind of supplement.  If you have any questions, you can easily visit the pharmacist who can help you out.  To me, that's a huge plus.  I have had to go to the pharmacist to make sure that Emma's medications don't have any contraindication with any over the counter products (vitamins, cold medicine, etc.) and because all of hers are filled there, they have immediate access to her medications.

Some locations have a Take Care Clinic inside them where you can see a qualified health care provider you can see if you have any health care issues.

While I was there, I did pick up this Centrum Multivitamin/Multimineral supplement.   My diet has been poor and I am trying to change that but even when I do, adding a supplement is still a good idea.  I worked for years for a vitamin company and learned the importance of having not just a multivitamin but one that contains minerals.  My blood sugar was a bit low and I had a hard time focusing, so I did ask a pharmacy staff member if he could point me to the shelf that had a Multi-Vitamin/Multimineral that did not have strawberries in them and he directed me right to the Centrum tropical chewables.  Perfect.  The selection of products was amazing.

Since I live in Arizona and we have sunshine nearly every single day, skin cancer is a concern and we have a high rate of it here in the valley of the sun, I did pick up sunblock.  I am super fair skinned and it is important to protect and treasure our skin!

If you get a chance, I highly recommend browsing Walgreens' website which is chock full of information concerning women's health.  There are so many health care issues that are unique to women and we really do need to be aware of them.  Everything from loving our bodies, dealing with stress, mental health, sun protection and health tests for women information is available and very informative.

I know I want to be healthy mom- mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically and Walgreens definitely is the place to get started on the road to GOOD health! I am busy but not too busy to chew my vitamins and put on sunblock.  If I can take time to put on foundation, I can squeeze in a layer of sunblock while chewing on a vitamin.  That simple! I have been meditating more to help calm my mind and it's another step in the right direction.
