As a heavy user of computers and electronic devices, protecting my daughter's and my eyes are extremely important to me. This sponsored post is a part of the campaign “Protecting America’s Eyes” by Reticare in order to inform U.S. citizens about the importance of eye protection from device screens. The opinions expressed in this post are entirely my own.
Like many of you, I spend a lot of time in front screens. At my day job, I am in front of a computer. When I come home, I am in front of a computer blogging. Let's not forget about phones, tablets, TV and other electronic devices that I am glued to. Em, she loves playing apps on the tablet when she comes home from her after school program.
That's a LOT of eye strain. As an eye glass wearer, I am acutely aware of when my eyes are TIRED and that's practically every single day. I try to give my eyes breaks but I feel like more needed to be done as it's not feasible to step away from my work desk every 30 minutes.
Eye strain affects all of us. The Vision Council did some research and found that on the 2016 Digital Eye Strain Report found that almost 60% of Americans use digital devices for five hours OR MORE EACH DAY. I know that's me. What's interesting is that I am guilty of being part of the 70% of Americans who use two or more devices at a time. *gulps*
No wonder we're always tired. That's a LOT of exposure to high-energy light.
High-energy light is emitted from electronic devices like computers, tablets, phones, etc. You may have even heard of Blue Light Hazard.
There are definitely hazards from long term exposure to high-energy light:
- Eye Strain. Symptoms of eye strain include dry eyes, neck and shoulder pain, headache, blurred vision.
- Sleep disorders.
- Computer Vision Syndrome.
- Decrease in thickness of the macula (lining at the back of your eye) and that can regress to macular degeneration (which can lead to vision loss).
Children are at a higher risk due to the protective lens of their eyes not fully developing until the age of 25.
What can we do to help protect our eyes?
1. Reduce screen time.
2. Schedule eye breaks away from looking at the screens.
3. Keep devices OUT of the bedroom. (I knooooowwww, this is hard for me, too!)
Reticare eye and screen protectors are incredible. They are simple yet provide a HUGE health benefit.
I know many of us already have "screen protectors" on our devices to prevent scratches and reduce fingerprints but they don't protect our eyes from the high energy light.
Reticare does.
The Reticare eye and screen protectors are backed by 14 years of research and scientific data. They are designed to protect eyes from the 3 major risks: Sleep disorders, Computer Eye Syndrome (with symptoms such as red eyes, blurry eyes, irritated eyes and headaches), and retina damage (which can cause glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, etc.). The protectors do this by naturally absorbing the high-energy light and provides different levels of protection based on age and amount of time spent in front of the screen.
And... we went with intense. It was a great choice. It's easy to put on and they don't distract from the screen's colors of brightness. I ordered one for my phone and one for our tablet.
I plan to order more for my computer monitor, laptop and one other tablet. I am *very* excited and I hope you are, too!
Do you feel the symptoms of eye strain?
How much time do you figure you spend in front of various screens?
