The Folgers Jingle Contest: The Magic of Coffee

Sometimes, I think that coffee is the key to peace.

Friendships are formed over a cuppa, disagreements can be solved while chatting over a cup o' joe, discussing your heartbreak with your best over a cup of coffee- all of these and then some unite souls and repair wounds and a cup of coffee is there.  Just like old faithful. 

Is coffee magical? Maybe not but it sure makes me nostalgic.  Whenever I brew a cup of Folgers coffee, I instantly think of two things: 


First- my mom.  I fondly recall her Saturday morning coffee dates with her best friends.  I would join her as we walked to her friend's house.  As soon as we arrived, they laid out their coffee supplies (creamer, sugar, mugs, spoons and ... playing cards) and my mom and her girlfriends played rummy, sipped the aromatic cups of hot coffee and chatted while I played with my friends in the backyard.  I have always wanted those moments with my girlfriends.

Second- the iconic Folgers Jingle.  Come on- you know it.  "The best part of wakin' up is Folgers in your cup".  I *still* remember the Christmas commercial where a son comes home to surprise his parents and wakes them up by brewing Folgers and everybody yells "Peter!". It's sweet and has stuck with me since the 1980s (I think it came out in the 80s or early 1990s).  That's how iconic the jingle is! 

The Folgers Jingle is part of pop culture.  Can you believe the Folgers Jingle "Best Part of Wakin' Up" is over 30 years old?!  It's still going strong.

Folgers has a long-standing tradition of truly inspiring musicians and invites aspiring musicians to embrace the Folgers Jingle and make it their own by creating their own version of the iconic "Best Part Of Wakin' Up" jingle.  

What's awesome is that Folgers has teamed up with Chris Young, country music singer-songwriter, to encourage aspiring musicians to enter the Folgers Jingle Contest.

Here's how it works:

• Submit your video of your version of the jingle on the website from January 30th through February 27th.  

• Your version of the Jingle MUST include the complete melody and complete lyrics of "The Best Part of Wakin' Up Is Folgers In Your Cup"

• Five semi-finalists will be chosen by Folgers and will have a mentoring session with Chris Young (Huge!)

• From March 27th to April 24th, fans around the country get to vote daily for their favorite jingle.  

• Each vote automatically enters YOU (as the contestant) to win prizes up to $10,000.  

• Then, in May the grand prize winner will be selected to win $25,000.

I am really excited to see the entries and vote for my favorite!
