"It's Monday! What Are You Reading?" is a weekly link up hosted by the wonderful Sheila at
Book Journey. Each week, we share what we read and what we are reading.
Happy Monday!
Last week, I finished "Polterheist" by Laura Resnick. Out of all the Esther Diamond books, Polterheist is my favorite. I had quite a few laugh out loud moments thanks to the banter and the visual descriptions. I love Lucky, the Mafia Hitman, and of course, Max, is awesome. Only thing is... I find the "relationship" (I am using that very loosely) between Esther and Connor ... pointless. After going back to the first book and recalling all the books between "Disappearing Nightly" to "Polterheist", I just find their relationship dumb. I think Connor Lopez is a douche. However, I love Esther, Satsy, Lucky, Max and the rest of the cast but Connor... I just don't like him but he doesn't ruin the series. Again, I LOVED Polterheist!
I did get "Flowers in the Attic" started. I am, of course, much older now compared to when I first read it so I am catching different cues than I did when I was younger. For example, when Cathy was discussing their background and how the neighbors nicknamed them the Dresden Dolls and how people commented that Christopher and Corinne look more like brother and sister than husband and wife. That just sets the groundwork for more to come. Of course, since I KNOW the story- I am most likely just more acutely aware of the hints and subtleties. The kids have just been locked in the room in the mansion and Corinne was whipped, so I am not too far into it but I am really feeling the same angst and the feeling of being sucked in that I did many, many years ago. O. M. G. I just realized it's been more than 20 years since I read Flowers in the Attic the first time. Woooooooooooooooow. Just hit me. ha.
So, did any of you catch the movie on Lifetime? I haven't yet. I plan to soon. They've also confirmed that the sequel, Petals in the Wind, is being developed. Yay. My VC Andrews obsession has been reignited. Uh oh...

Interesting reading. Some members of my family read Flowers in the Attic but I never got enticed by them. Have a great reading week.

Haven't watched the movie yet but I'm going to ... not sure I'm going to re-read the series though, I'm sure I don't need another addiction haha. Have a great week and happy reading Jaime :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not planning on rereading the series but I am curious about the TV movies.

I wonder if I would be into FITA as much as I was 30+ years ago. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteSo many people have recommended FITA to me as a great series...but I still haven't tried it. I tend to shy away from scary.
ReplyDeleteI never read any of VC Andrews' books, but I've heard so much about them. I saw the commercials for the movie and that looks good too.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
I forgot to watch it when it was on!! I need to find out if it is still available. And I think I am going to read it again too.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like everyone is watching/reading Flower in the Attic this week. I must have been the only one not to read it back in the day (or now)!
ReplyDeleteI listened to Flowers in the Attic in my twenties, still remember the 'haunted' feeling it gave me!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy these haunting books - have a lovely week!
I'm not familiar with the Resnick series but I recognize the Andrews titles but don't recall if I ever read them. Maybe I'll look for the movie on Roku/Netflix.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy the re-read. Have a good week. :-)
