Review: Bulletproof Picasso by Train

I participated in the Train Bulletproof Picasso album review program as a member of One2One Network. I was provided a free album to review but all opinions are my own.

Oh happy, happy day! Train's new album is dropping on September 16th here in the United States (the 12th for you lucky ducks living in countries with Friday release days!) and I have to say, I feel insanely excited to have been given a chance to listen to the album in its entirety before it is officially released.

I have loved Train since Drops of Jupiter and they have consistently provided great music and solid albums but in my opinion- Bulletproof Picasso might be their best yet.

Before I go into my review, let me begin by saying this has been a rough week (as you can tell by the fact I posted NOTHING on my blog until today) and this four day work week has felt like it was 10 days long.  I received my download on September 2nd but didn't actually download "Bulletproof Picasso" until yesterday and I transferred it to my iPhone and I decided today was the day to listen to the album.  What a perfect way to spend my Friday.  I am not exaggerating when I say that this album has been on repeat.  Sure, I've been mixing it up with another album that actually dropped on Tuesday but "Bulletproof Picasso" had so many songs that were really uplifting and gave me a beat that made me want to move.

I'm sure you've already experienced "Angel in Blue Jeans" by now.  If not, give it a listen or rather a watch because Danny Trejo, yo!

The album opens up with "Cadillac Cadillac" which really sets the tone for the entire album.  The upbeat music will not allow you stop moving and how can you NOT feel good when you listen to it? Need a mood boost? This is the one for you.

I have to admit, "Son of a Prison Guard",  "Bulletproof Picasso", "I Will Remember" and "Baby Don't Grow Up So Fast" might be my three favorite songs.

Well, I say that right now.  Ha.

There is NOT a bad song on the album.

There are songs to make you move, songs to help you relax, songs to make you think and songs that you can't help but sing along (Helloooo - "I will Remember".  Here's to us, we were at the top.... )

Pat Monahan's voice is consistent and he shows what a true vocal talent he is and just want a talented band Train is together.

“I’ve always wanted to emotionally connect with people through the songs,” says Monahan. “But I also want to get into people’s lives with this album. We’re very excited about Bulletproof Picasso and we’re looking forward to performing some of the new songs for all our fans.”

I think he has achieved his goal.  The album is not full of meaningless fluff- it's full of meaning.

"Don't Grow Up So Fast" is powerful.  It's really what you think it may be about.  Here are some of the lyrics:

"Just don't grow up so fast.  You don't want to know what I know yet.  Maybe on paper it looks better than it is.  Don't you hurry, try to take it slow.  You will get there before you know."

As Pat sings, there's only so much sand in the hourglass.  He's right.  Take it slow.  Don't be in a rush to grow up.

Absolutely beautiful.

I am telling you- you will NOT be disappointed.

I am STILL listening to the album as I am typing.  I am absolutely in love with it.
